What is Silica Sol Investment Casting?

Silica Sol Investment Casting is an investment casting technique. Except that the investment mold is made of silica sol zircon sand mixed with refractory powder, the process is very similar. When making the mold, silica sol zircon sand is exceptionally fine-grained (10-20 microns) and can be mixed to a slurry with very low viscosity. As a result, dimensionally accurate castings with excellent as-cast surface finishes are produced using this casting method. Importantly, the silica sol zircon mold can withstand temperatures of up to 2000°C, making it ideal for casting high-temperature alloy steels and stainless steels.
